Kelčany

Mapa

Kelčany is situated 4 km south of Kyjov. The village stretches on both sides of the Hruškovice Creek. Around the village, in agricultural landscape, there are mainly fields and orchards. To the west of Kelčany there is quite a large grove called Chrást, to the south of the grove there are Vlkoš vineyards. Kelčany has 245 inhabitants and belongs to the Podchřibí micro-region. Kelčany is attractive particularly for its technical sights. We can find traces of lignite mining, relics of a railway spur track * and the remains of an old sugar factory. The most dominant sight is an old carved wooden cross. A well observed tradition is Kelčany Festival commemorated on 2nd July on the Day of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary. In the past, the festival was associated with pilgrimage, lately there have been no pilgrimage, though. The local costume ranks with “northern Kyjov” ones.
